Popular
singer Harrysong has taken to social media in support of superstar
singer Wizkid, following a recent video that surfaced online, in which a
round-table of UK-based DJs heavily criticized Star Boy and expressed
that without Drake, nobody would know him.
Recall that golden technum
gathered that one of the DJs present at the podcast categorically
denounced Wizkid as the face of afrobeats and submitted that not a lot
of people know him.
Reacting to the video, Harrysong shared a post on Instagram in which he
clapped hard at the foreign DJs and expressed that Nigerian celebrities
do not need any form of external validation.
"Davido, Burna boy, 2face Idibia, and many more don't need Sean Paul or drake to be known as star as they are." he said.
The singer also expressed that foreigners should learn to respect the sound and culture of African musicians.
He
concluded by casually requesting his followers to commence a search for
the social media handle of the DJ that heavily criticized Wizkid.
The video opens up with one of four DJs making the
submission that if it was not for the influence of Canadian rapper,
Drake, nobody outside Africa would know about Wizkid.
In strong agreement to his position, another presenter categorically stated that ‘nobody knows Wizkid’ and went on to back up his assertion with an explanation.
According
to him, despite efforts being made to push the narrative of the
Nigerian-born singer as the face of afrobeats, it still remains to be
widely contested.
"They try to make Wizkid look like the Sean Paul of afrobeats, but he is not even close to half of what Sean Paul was doing." the DJ stressed
Going on with his submission, the DJ pointed out that there is no star of afrobeats yet.
In
a bid to counter his point of view, another host on the podcast
submitted that when it comes to the face of Afrobeats, Wizkid and Davido
remain worthy of mention.
Responding,
he noted that it was only music heads that are familiar with the
African superstars, adding that 90% of people in the United Kingdom do
not know Wizkid.
Meanwhile, Golden technum previously
gathered that Wizkid shared a post on his social media page in which he
reaffirmed his position on music. The singer expressed that music remains his one true religion.
He recently took to his Insta story to share his
excitement over an upcoming release of his song titled Joro. In
excitement, he opened up about what music is to him.
In his words: "Music is spiritual to me! My only religion!"
